student loan?
By admin | January 12, 2012
northern cali mom asked:
I just decided to go back to school and i need a student loan. I dont know how they work, do they give the loan to me to pay the school or do they give it directly to the school? I am asking because I need help paying the first 2 weeks of daycare and was wondering if I could borrow more to help me pay daycare too?

I think it goes directly to the school

Ok, here’s how it works. You fill out a FASFA form and on it you tell the gov which school to send your info too. Then the school will tell you what you qualify for (hopefully you will get a PELL grant too don’t have to pay those back). You go in to the Fin Aide office and sign some papers. Then the money gets sent to the school. They pay your school fees. Then, if there is any left over, they cut you a check.

Your loan goes to the school after your tuition and fees are paid the remainder goes to you. You have to show a pattern of attendance before any proceeds are given to you. so you will have to find another way to pay for the first few weeks of childcare. I don’t know if YOUR circumstances will permit you to borrow for child care- but many do have that benefit.

you could also call the college you are going to attend and ask fin aid dept (or if they have on site daycare) for info on help with daycare.
