Your school will have a financial aid office that will answer all of your questions.

FASFA.
It is a pell grant of up to 5500.
A pell grant is money that you do NOT have to pay back.
It is a long tedious process, but worth it.
it is only available to those with low income house holds.
But it never hurts to apply.#

most colleges including online ones will help you fill out all the paperwork.

Check the financial aid page of the college you are going to. You fill out a form called FAFSA and at the end it tells you how much your expected contribution to your college expenses are.
Student loans are often from the federal government and they are often subsidized so that you have a very low interest rates. But if you don’t qualify according to FAFSA and your school, you can get a private student loan from a bank. Much better deal if you can get the federal subsidized loan, though.

Everyone should start by applying for financial aid using the FAFSA application at the “.gov” website, even if you think you might not qualify. This would start the process to see if you qualify for a taxpayer funded grant and/or a subsidized/unsubsidized loan. After completing the paperwork and it is processed, you will be informed of what you can expect.
Even if you receive a government grant, you might need additional funds for tuition, books, living expenses and other things. Try to get an additional grant(s) or scholarship(s) before taking on a loan!
Grants and scholarships can come from many sources: individuals, colleges/universities, professional organizations, employers, private corporations, nonprofits, religious groups, or the company where you or your parents work. Do a search to see what is available for your specific needs and circumstances. There are articles to teach you how and where to search rather than just going to scholarship sites, although you can give them a try.
If you have been accepted at a college/university or if you have a specific school in mind, ask their financial aid department. You need to search to find as many grants or scholarships as you can.
You will hit many “dead ends,” but you need to keep on trying. It helps to first become familiar with some basic financial terms (e.g., grants, scholarships, loans), then learn how and where to search.

John gave you very detailed answer…adding little bit more to it:
You should fill the fafsa application along with what college you are planing to attend. And also talk to the financial aid office at the future college and ask any question that you may have and that way you will get exact information.

First you have to apply for a loan and fill the FAFSA form. Then you can apply for the different type of federal student loans available and you can check out the link –>
You can receive different amount of aid in different type of loans. The website i mentioned lists the different type of loans which you should research before applying for financial aid.
